MEGA MOVIE BLOG (Updated on 7th Aug 2020)

Hello friends,

In this blog I've put an account of some of the great non-Bollywood movies I've seen over the years that I've found really enchanting & worth recommending. I don't want to sound judgmental. The list is not exhaustive and if any great movie is missing, it's probably because I've not seen it or it's way too good or popular.

To make things easier I've omitted the likes of Lord of the Rings, Star wars, Titanic, Dark Knight, Godfather, Shawshank Redemption, Inception, Interstellar, Gladiator etc. because anybody who has even a slight penchant for films would know these are excellent movies. Also, I'm not a big sci-fi or action movie buff so I have not included many sci-fi or action movies like Avengers, MIB Series, Bourne Series, Bond movies, Spiderman trilogy etc. Following is the list of my favourite flicks, genre-wise along with the ratings (only greater than 3 out of 5) and a single-line description/micro-review:

AN ATTEMPT AT AD-MAKING

Hi all,

This time it's not about a movie-list. Our group "Dial M" has made an attempt at ad-making. My team mates are Anurag Singh, Abhilasha Sharma & Jyoti Bodh. Following is the youtube link:

Please feel free to comment (and like).

P.S.- Recently, our team got the prize money (Rs 5000/-) for being the Runners-up in "iBrand2011" conducted at IIML which was a more holistic event including ad-making for a hypothetical product (love potion as in the above ad) and designing promotional strategy for a product (Tetley Tea in our case). Following is the pic with my team mates:

FOR THE LOVE OF KOREAN CINEMA.... (Updated on 7th Aug 2020)

Hi friends,

Koreans are very emotional people (atleast their movies suggest so!!), so even their movies with serious themes have a strong emotional appeal. This can, at times, be an achilles' heel because there is thin line difference between cliche' and brilliance. I somehow developed a strong penchant for korean movies in final year and the mania continued for entire year; I ended up watching dozens of korean movies. Not all of them turned out to be so good but some are definitely worth watching. Jae-young-kwak has given some absolute gems like "The Classic" & "My Sassy Girl". Chan-woo-park is a director of international repute, famous for "JSA" & revenge trilogy esp. "Oldboy". Kim-ki-duk is a master of abstract cinema. MY PICK OF TOP 15 HOLLYWOOD DIRECTORS OF ALL TIME (Updated on 7th Aug 2020)

Hello Friends,

I've come up with yet another list !! This time it's "Top 15 Hollywood directors of all time". Needless to say, I have my own biases as I am a fan of realistic cinema and believe that movies are not for entertainment only. They should make you think as well. Nolan's movies (Interstellar, Inception, Memento) definitely do that : After the credits roll, one is always left wondering "what was that????". So, the list has no film-makers of the romantic/comedy (read no-brainers) genre; though couldn't exclude James Cameron for the gem of a movie (Titanic) he made. The list is an eclectic mix of modern and cult geniuses. Tarantino is a virtuoso at directing revenge movies. Scorsese is a master of Crime/gangster movies. Fincher makes excellent mysteries.
